Where is Camp Echo Lake located?
Camp Echo Lake is located in Warrensburg, New York in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains. 10 minutes north of Lake George, NY; 1 hour north of Albany, NY; 3.5 hours north of NYC; 2.5 hours south of Montreal, Canada; 1 hour from Lake Placid, NY. Camp is situated on 135 acres of pine forest with a 35-acre spring fed lake and is surrounded by the beautiful Adirondack Mountains.

What is the camper enrollment like at Camp Echo Lake?
There are 250 girls and boys ages 7-12 in Echo Lake's Main Village and 150 girls and boys ages 13-16 in Echo Lake's Senior Village. Campers come from all over the United States as well from Canada, Mexico, and Europe.

What are the staff at Camp Echo Lake like in general?
With 200+ staff during the summer, Echo Lake's staff to camper ratio is approximately 1 staff member for every 2 campers. Typically 50% of Echo Lake's staff are returnees and the average age is 22 years old. To find new staff, Echo Lake visits and contacts many colleges and universities and websites in North America and internationally recognized counselor exchange programs. Only the best candidates are selected after a rigorous screening process and a personal interview.

How long is the Echo Lake summer Program and what are some specific activities offered at Echo Lake?
At Echo Lake, all campers participate in one full season session that starts in late June and ends in mid August. Campers participate in all aspects of our core program including a large variety of land sports, theatre arts, water sports, outdoor adventure experiences, and community living. There are both scheduled group activities and camper selected elective activities that vary for children according to their developmental level. Echo Lake’s program grows and changes with the ages of children so we can continue to offer new, exciting, and developmentally appropriate activities.

What are the facilities like at Echo Lake?
Our facilities include the following…dining hall, Echo Lake Lodge (www.elakelodge.com), 30+ Main Village bunks, 30+ Senior Village bunks, staff accommodations, The Rox-counselor lounge, health center, archery range, 3 baseball/softball diamonds, 2 batting cages, 10 outdoor all-weather surface basketball courts (3 lighted courts), brand new indoor sports pavilion/all purpose facility, 4 soccer fields, lacrosse field, indoor fitness center with Universal equipment and free weights, covered gymnastics center/pavilion, roller-blading/roller hockey arena, 1 street hockey arenas, 16 all-weather surface tennis courts (6 lighted courts); 3 practice tennis courts with rebound nets; camper rec rooms, newly renovated dance studio, 4,000 square foot brand new Fine Arts Center with general art area, ceramics studio, wood working studio, photography darkroom, and covered breezeway; outdoor performing arts amphitheater; theatre studio, video/web-site workshop, radio station and DJ booth; 35 acre spring fed Echo Lake, 2-25 meter heated Olympic size pools used for racing, 1-20 meter recreational pool; at near-by Loon Lake: 3 power boats for water-skiing, including 2 Custom Craft Ski-Nautiques and 14 sailboats; An outdoor adventure Trek environmental center with trips: white-water rafting, overnight backpacking, caving explorations, rock climbing, hiking, swimming, mountain biking, canoeing, etc…

Although our daily schedule varies slightly due to the day of the week and certain special events, a generic typical day looks approximately like this:

What are the living accommodations like at Echo Lake?
Housing at camp is simple but very comfortable. We have wood frame cabins with indoor plumbing and electricity! Most of the cabins have ceiling fans as well. Shower houses with individual shower stalls are located within a few feet of all bunks. Each camper or staff person has their own bed and cubbies. Approximately 8-12 campers and 3-4 staff live community style, with the emphasis on a shared experience. All staff and campers foster community living within their bunk and group. Staff are crucial to the creation of this atmosphere in their summer living environment and in the creation of your summer home.


What is the "Time Off" schedule like for staff at Echo Lake?
We know that you are going to work extremely hard at camp so we know how important it is for you to find time to relax recharge, and regain perspective. In addition to a fun and dynamic Staff Rec program (with such events as a basketball league, bowling night, pool parties, ice skating night, movie nights, and spa event) we have a Staff Lounge called The Rox with internet access, pay phones, TV, pool table, and vending machines to enhance your summer experience. In terms of time off, staff receive one period off a day plus evenings free from 10:00 pm until 1:00 am every night except one a week. Staff also receive one day off each week for approximately 30 hours. Time off and Staff Rec events are great ways to foster friendships and provide even more fun for your camp experience. At Echo Lake we make our best efforts to help staff receive enough "recharge" time for them to stay healthy, happy and energized!

What are some other staff responsibilities at Echo Lake?
One night each week, each staff person is asked to stay in camp and be On Duty (O.D.) from 10:00 pm until 1:00 am. Essentially this is our way of keeping camp safe at night as you oversee one or two cabins while the campers settle in for the night.

How do Non-US/Non-Canadian or Foreign Staff apply to work at Echo Lake?
The Camp Echo Lake Staff Search appreciates the interest of foreign staff. In fact, many of our staff are from countries other than the US and Canada. However, we cannot hire those staff directly.
